October 7th Picks

October 6th Pick Results

Rori Sabbatini- Loss (by one stroke 37-36)
New York Yankees- Loss 2-3

Blog record for Month 5-6

This has definitely been the toughest month for this blog. This is the first day this blog hasn't had at least one win since it started back in August. Tomorrow's picks look a lot better though. I'll put more up on each pick tomorrow. I just don't have a lot of time tonight.

Pick #1 Sweden Win

This is a pretty good pick that I actually feel good about. Really the first pick I've felt good about in the last couple days. For starters, Sweden beat Finland 5-0 in their last Euro qualifying. Thats a pretty large margin. Also the only team Sweden has struggled against lately (2 losses) is a very talented (8-0-0) Netherlands team. Thats all I am going to write on the game for now, just know it is a pretty good pick. Pretty heavily favored as well.

Pick #2- Italy Win or Draw

Italy will be sitting quite a few key players out since they have already qualified. Even with their B team however, I think they have a good shot at ending the game with a draw. They still have a decent lineup. Still, Serbia shouldn't be underestimated with a pretty full squad. Don't risk a big streak on it, but Italy for the draw (or possibly win)

Much more to come.

October 6th Picks

October 5th Pick Results:

Livorno- Loss (0-0 draw)
Arizona Diamondbacks- Win (5-3)

Blog record for month- 5-4

Still not getting much easier as far as picks that are posted go. With the MLB playoffs (great teams vs. great teams) and extremely close soccer matches, it has been difficult for a lot of people this month. I have a couple tomorrow though that I will roll the die on...

Pick #1 Rory Sabbatina (golf)

I don't usually do golf on Streak for the Cash. Mainly because of so many lost streaks I've placed on golf props, but since I have a low streak right now I think I will risk it just for the heck of it. Both Rory Sabbatina and Heath Slocum have struggled a bit on tomorrow's course. On paper though, Rory Sabbatina has looked slightly better overall. Plus with the tie option, I think he stands a pretty good shot.

Pick # 2 New York Yankees

The New York Yankees will start Ivan Nova (3.70 ERA, 1.33 whip, 16-4, 98 strikeouts) on the mound tonight against Detroit. Detroit will bring out Doug Fister (2.83 ERA, 1.06 whip, 11-13 record, 146 strikeouts). Fister struggled against the Yankees in his last appearance, posting a 11.57 ERA after a 3-9 loss. Nova played pretty well in that same game against the Tigers, posting a 2.84 ERA after a 9-3 win. Both teams have batted very well this season. New York ranks 2nd in runs, 7th in batting average, 2nd on base and 3rd in slugging percent. Detroit ranks 4th in runs, 3rd in batting average, 4th on base and 4th in slugging percent. Currently the series is tied 2-2, but with New York at home I think they can pull it off.

More coming...

October 5th Picks

October 4th Pick Results:

Phillies- Won 3-2
LA Galaxy- Loss (trailing by 1 at halftime

Record for month 4-3

*Possible pick- Gateshead- Loss 1-4

I think Streakmaster is trying to make it as impossible as he can for anyone to reach the stash three times straight. There has been fewer options and tougher picks it seems than in previous months. Right now I only see six for tomorrow, after we had eight today and seven the day before. Maybe there just isn't as much going on in sports... I don't know.

Anyway, I have one afternoon pick for tomorrow I like, and I will try to get something else up in the evening. Hopefully I can improve my predictions. By far this has been the worst start for this blog.

Pick #1 Livorno: Win

I did not get home in time to do a full writeup, but with Livorno at home and Empoli only playing so-so lately, I'm going with Livorno.

Pick #2 St. Louis Cardinals

I'm reluctant to put this up, but I feel like I should put this up just for the sake of adding to this post. Not really a lot I like today. I think I see St. Louis pulling it off tonight. With St. Louis at home and in the presence of an elimination game, I think they would love to do it in the presence of a home crowd. They came pretty close to pulling off a win last night against Hamels, I think tonight they will be able to pull it off against Oswalt. The Cardinals Edwin Jackson (3.79 ERA, 1.44 whip, 12-9, 148 strikeouts) will get the start tonight against the Phillies. Jackson has played significantly better at home. Going 5-3 with a 2.94 ERA in 17 home games. Roy Oswalt (3.69 ERA, 1.34 whip, 9-10 record, 93 strikeouts) the Phillie's starting pitcher for tonight, has gone 5-6 with a 3.59 ERA in 14 away starts. I would go St. Louis of the two.

October 4th Picks

October 3rd pick result:

Detroit Tigers- Won 5-4

Blog record for month- 3-2

Glad to see Detroit pull out a win tonight at home. Tomorrow seems pretty dead again. Streakmaster has been slacking more than usual. Anyway, there are a couple of games I feel decent about.

Possible Pick- Gateshead: Win

I know this is a little late notice, but with Wrexham out with some key players (5 of them to be exact), I think Gateshead has a good shot at home against Wrexham. Included in Wrexham's 5 starters out are; their starting goalie Chris Maxwell and leading scorer Jake Speight.

Pick #1 Philadelphia Phillies

Cole Hamels is the main reason for this pick. Traditionally, he has done very well agaist the St. Louis Cardinals despite his 5-0 loss back on September 18th. This season he has posted a 2.70 ERA, 194 strikeouts, 0.99 whip with his 14-9 record. With that said, Jaime Garcia has been pretty hot lately. In September he was 3-0 and averaged a 2.64 ERA. Overall this season he has put up a 3.56 ERA, 1.32 whip, 156 strikeouts and a record of 13-7. This should be pretty close. I'll take the Phillies, but not with a ton of confidence. Just enough to take the risk.

Confidence rating: 60%      Phillies 60% ------------><-------- Cardinals 40%

Pick #2 LA Galaxy: Leading at halftime or tie

My only concern is if LA decides to sit a lot of key players. With a secure playoff spot and not a lot to play for, this may be a trap. I'll have to see the linups first, but if most of thier starters see action in the first half, this may still be a good pick.

   Confidence Rating 65%        Galaxy 65% ------------><-------- Red Bulls 35%

More to come tomorrow...
