August 19th Picks/lookback on day

August 18th pick results

D.C. United- Won (draw 1-1)

Record for day- 1-0
Overall- 26-3

Surprised D.C. struggled so much. At one point I was actually pulling for them to lose to see the leaderboard go down. It was a win-win to me.

Tomorrow I have 2 or 3 picks. It seems like SM is really trying to throw some tougher picks lately. These are the best I could find. I may stay away today.

The Picks...

Pick #1 Wolfsburg

This pick didn't seem increadibly good to me at first. Borussia beat Bayern, who beat Wolfsburg. However, after doing a bit of research on this game, Borussia has a couple key players out and there are a lot of decent streaks being risked on this game. Also a fact, no game between these teams have ever ended without a goal. I think a draw is probably the most likely scenario.

Borussia Monchengladbach

Lucien Favre will have to do without the services of first-choice striker Igor de Camargo and defender Martin Stranzl who have picked up injuries. Roel Brouwers is serving a suspension after picking up a red card in last weekend's game against Stuttgart, and is set to miss the match on Friday.

Wolfsburg

Felix Magath will have a nearly full squad on hand, with only long-term absentees Arne Friedrich and Thomas Kahlenberg, as well as the dropped Diego, unavailable from his first-team squad. Ja-Cheol Koo is also injured after picking a knock in the match against Bayern Munich last Saturday and will join new signing Thomas Hitzlsperger on the sidelines

Pick #2 Texas Rangers-

I really hate picking Texas 4 of the last 5 days, but so far last night was my most concerned day to pick them. The Rangers (72-52, 33-29 away) will travel tomorrow to face the White Socks (61-61, 27-34 home). The Rangers have looked pretty well on the road, the White Socks havn't looked to great at home. Texas will start Matt Harrison (3.19 ERA, 10-8, 95 strikeouts, 1.27 WHIP) on the mound, who has looked pretty well this season. Chicago will start Jake Peavy (4.69 ERA, 5-5, 69 strikeouts, 1.23 WHIP). The Rangers recently became #1 in batting average in the MLB surpassing Boston. Next to that, they rank 3rd in runs, 4th on base and 2nd in slugging %. The White Socks are pretty average in batting, ranking 19th in runs, 15th batting average, 13th on base and 19th in slugging %. This isn't a lock but it is a decent pick.
