December 22nd Picks

Ryan's Picks

Pick #1: Missouri Tigers

I like the Missouri Tigers to beat the Illinois Fighting Illini at a
neutral site game that is in Missouri. This game is a fierce rivalry,
and Missouri has won the past two meetings. Missouri is a much better
offensive team, ranking second in the nation in points per game and
field goal percentage. Meanwhile, Illinois does not rank in the top
100 of any of the major statistical categories. Illinois best win was
probably Gonzaga, while the Tigers have beaten Cal by 39 points, and
have won every game this year by double digits. This game may be a
little closer, but the tigers will win.

Pick #2 Baylor
This is going to be short and sweet. I think Baylor should beat St
Marys. St Marys is a good team and a good program. They are tough to
beat in their hometown of Moraga. But this game is in Nevada, and
Baylor is just too much for the Gaels. St Marys has lost 11 out of
their last 14 games versus ranked opponents and I expect much of the
same from the Gaels. Go with Baylor.

December 19th Picks

Ryan's Picks

Pick #1 Frank Gore more rushing yards in 1st half.

I like Frank Gore to have more rushing yards than Rashard Mendenhall. A couple things working against Gore, the 49ers always defer when they win the toss, and you can expect Kendell Hunter to get some carries. But, the 49ers have the best run defense in the NFL, and one of the best in NFL history. They still have yet to yield a rushing TD and have not given up a 100 yard rusher in 35 consecutive games. I expect the niners to try to slow down the steelers pass rush by pounding the ball, and  I expect Gore to our run Mendenhall.

December 18th Picks

Christian's Picks:

1. Packers: Wins by 15+ Points

The Packers may never lose again, let's face it. They are like the Patriots in that they never hold back and always try to score, whether they're up by 1 or by 35. Kyle Orton will be starting for a shaky Chiefs team who just fired their coach, Todd Haley. Teams never do too well in the week after firing their coach. Greg Jennings will be out for the Packers but this shouldn't affect Rodgers too much because he has other weapons like Nelson and Finley to throw too. If the Packers can beat the Raiders by 30 points after benching all their starters in the second half, they can beat the Chiefs by at least 15.

2. Detroit Lions

The Lions are a better team hands down. They will have Suh back and with him, Vanden Bosch, and Fairley, they will make Carson Palmer sweat. The Lions need a win here and they need the Cowboys, Bears, and Seahawks to lose ONE of their three remaining games to make the playoffs. The Raiders likely need to win out to make the playoffs which they probably won't do, starting with this game. Stafford is simply going to tear apart their disappointing defense (18th in passing yards allowed and 29th in rushing yards allowed). The Raiders let up 27.2 PPG and score only 22.3 while the Lions score 28.2 PPG and allow 23.4 PPG. Lions win this 23-17.

December 16th Picks

Ryan's Picks

Pick #1 Wisconsin Whitewater Warhawks win

Wisconsin Whitewater Warhawks should win the Division 3 national football championship  fairly easily. Both teams are undefeated and have played each other for the national championship for the sixth straight year. Mount Union has had the better, more impressive run in the playoffs, but, I still believe Wisconsin Whitewater is more talented. Wisconsin Whitewater will use their superior defense and will win the championship.

Christian's Picks

1. Any Other Result (Köln @ Bayern München)

So, at first glance, I really like the AOR pick. Regardless, Bayern is still one of the best teams in the world. Needless to say, Köln, is not.... There are a few interesting stats which may sway your decision in this game. The last four times these teams have played, including last year, here were the results:Köln beat Bayern 3-2 @ home, They drew twice 0-0 at Bayern, and then once again, Köln drew them 1-1 at home. Last year, Köln was also in 10th in the table (as they are now) and Bayern München was still their dominant self. This year, Bayern München lost back to back to Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05. Interestingly enough, Köln just came off a 1-1 draw against Mainz 05, the team who BEAT Bayern München! I think that Köln's Poloski will be a large center of attention for Bayern München on account of him scoring five goals in the last three matches. Köln also really needs a draw here so they will be on their "ultra-defensive" self, trying to contain Bayern München as much as possible. Since this is virtually impossible, it will at least stymie them from scoring goals for a bit..... Hopefully. Anyways, I think Bayern München wins by one goal here.

2. Yes: A Point Scored in the first 6 Minutes (Montana @ Sam Houston St.)

To say I did a lot of research on this game would be a lie. However, I just have a feeling that the offenses will come out scoring. In both of their last games, there was a score within the first 6 minutes (At 5:38 in and then 5:54 in). Though it was close, it still counts. Both these teams have potent offenses which can score so therefore, I think one of the teams will score early. Good luck!

December 15th Picks

Ryan's Picks

Pick #1 FK Rubin Kazan win or draw

FK Rubin Kazan should be able to win, and most definitely at least draw with PAOK Salonika. I feel like the Russian side has played better competition and has more skill than the Greek league that PAOK Salonika competes in. PAOK has already clinched a spot in the next round, while Rubin Kazan must win or draw to advance. Kazan has much more incentive to play hard, and advance with a draw, therefore, if the game is tied late they will most probably defensive and settle for the draw. I would pick FK Rubin Kazan for the win or draw.

Pick #2 Atlanta Falcons win by double digits.

I like the Atlanta Falcons to win this game on Thursday night by double digits. In general, Atlanta plays very well at home. In addition, road teams have not faired well on the short week playing on thursday. Atlanta should start feeling desperate as the wild card in the NFC is becoming more competitive. Matt Ryan and Julio Jones have started to have some chemistry, and I expect them to put connect on some big plays. Meanwhile, I expect the Falcons to stack the box and stop Maurice Jones Drew, forcing an inept Blaine Gabbert to beat them. The Falcons are one of the best teams at stopping the run. I tend to under rate the Jags as I did this last sunday, so pick at your own risk, but I do believe the Falcons will beat them by double digits.

Christian's Picks:

1. @ San Jose Sharks

The Sharks are tough to beat at home in the Shark Tank. The odds are highly in favor of San Jose at -195, almost two to one and they are 73% to win (according to a simulation). Granted, hockey odds don't really mean too much because anything can happen (Like when the Blue Jackets beat Vancouver a few nights ago). However, these odds are pretty hard to bet against. Whether this is on SFTC or not, San Jose is still the much better team and should definitely win this. They have lost two straight OT games and Niemi will have a nice performance against Duchene and company tonight. The Shark's GAA is 2.39 while the Av's GAA is 3.03. Also, the Sharks score 2.68 GPG and the Avs score 2.48 GPG. Every stat leads me to believe that the Sharks will win this 3-1. Good Luck!
